Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions, answered.
For Customers
How does the process work with revcharge?
We help you decide on the right EV charger and take away the headache of getting it installed. Our unique three step process is as follows:
1. Answer: After you fill out a quote request form, you’ll be sent a text message to complete your request on your smartphone. This will include taking and sending photos of your switchboard, desired charger location and more. All of these questions have been carefully curated to ensure we provide you with a fixed-quote.
2. Choose: Our quotes include a recommended EV charger based on our assessment of your home as well as two alternative EV chargers for you to choose from. All options include the delivery, installation and activation of the EV charger quoted at a fixed price — making it easy for you to choose. We also have an installation only service for homeowners looking to have an existing EV charger installed and activated by a technician.
3. Install: We’ll then send you an invoice for payment. If you ordered your EV charger with revcharge, you will receive it before this date. If you have an existing charger you want installed, just let your technician know when booking your installation. Once the EV charger is in place, the installer can also help you connect any apps for the charger and show you how to use it.
We’ll also keep you well-informed throughout the entire process by email and text message, to make it as easy and seamless as possible.
How much do electric vehicle chargers including installation typically cost?
Our electric vehicle charging stations including full installation and activation start from $1550, while some of the more expensive chargers and/or complex instals will be priced accordingly. The cost of the charger that is right for you will vary depending on your individual circumstances. Why not fill out the form here to find out which charging system is right for you? You can also check out the cost of our individual chargers on our shop page here.
I already have my own charger, do you offer installation only? What costs are involved?
What warranty is offered on the chargers?
All of our charging systems come with a manufacturer’s warranty running between 2-4 years, affording you the peace of mind that the product is built to last and you will not be left high and dry if something goes wrong.
What payment methods do you accept?
revcharge accepts bank transfer and credit card payments.
Do you really help with app and interface activation?
We certainly do. All of our technicians are trained not just in how to install the physical charger, but also activate any apps or interface. They’ll show you how to get started right after they finish installing your charger.
Can at home EV chargers be installed outside?
Yes. All of our EV chargers are able to be installed indoors or outdoors. They are both weatherproof and waterproof.
Can at home EV chargers be easily stolen?
No. The charging unit itself is nearly impossible to steal as they are permanently affixed to a wall. However, an untethered unit is recommended if you are looking to install the unit outside. This allows you to remove the cable and store it away safely under lock and key.
What are the different levels of EV chargers?
There are three different levels of chargers:
Level 1: Most new EVs come with a factory-issued level 1 EV charger that can be used with the preexisting residential wiring. Level 1 EV chargers come in different shapes and sizes, but their power rate is limited between 1.8kW and 2.4kW. Since the delivered current for a level 1 EV charger is so limited, it is also called trickle charging.
Level 2: The fastest AC EV chargers that residential users can get at home are known as level 2 EV chargers. These are the chargers revcharge recommends to home users. Residential level 2 single-phase EV charging stations operating at 230V, feature a rated power that varies between 3.6kW up to 9.6kW.
Level 3: These are known as your DC chargers (ones you usually see in public). These are sometimes known as ultrafast charging. Almost all residential properties wouldn’t have the electrical capacity or authorisation to be able to install DC chargers, and in many instances DC chargers start from $50k each!

What is the difference between a tethered and untethered EV charger?
Tethered home chargers have the charging cable permanently attached to the wall unit. The main benefit of tethered chargers is that they reduce the time it takes to locate and set-up the cable each time you want to charge your EV.
Untethered home charges come with the charging cable separate from the wall unit. The main benefit of untethered chargers is that you are able to neatly store the cable out of sight once you are finished charging your EV. You also have the added flexibility of being able to take the cable with you on trips in case you need to top up at public charging stations. revcharge sell EV charging cables on our online store in a range of different lengths and colours.
How fast is a home EV charger?
This depends on whether it’s a Level 1 or Level 2 EV charger. Level 1 EV chargers use a regular 240-volt wall socket and charging cable. They are the simplest and cheapest form of EV chargers and take up to anywhere from 10 hours to the most part of the entire day to fully charge an electric vehicle depending on your charger's capacity and EV’s battery size.
Level 2 EV chargers come in both single and 3-phase varieties. These types of chargers require a charging station that can be recommended and installed for you by revcharge. Single phase chargers can take anywhere from 4-8 hours to fully charge an EV, while 3-phase chargers will only take a couple of hours.
Can I plug my electric car into a regular outlet?
If you purchase a Level 1 charger it is possible to charge your car from a regular power point at home. This method can take up to a full 24-hours for some electric vehicles to recharge from empty, depending on the make and model of charger and car. We recommend a Level 2 charger to reduce the recharge time and your reliance on public EV charging stations.
If you are interested in getting a Level 2 charger installed at your home, why not fill out the form here to find out which electric vehicle charging system is right for you?
What are the benefits of installing an EV charger vs using a regular power point?
The biggest and most obvious benefit is speed to charge. With a regular power point charger (also known as a level 1 charger), the speed to charge your car’s battery can be quite slow.
Another benefit is that level 1 chargers are ‘dumb’ in the sense that they don’t do anything apart from charge. With a proper EV charger, you can tap into ‘smart charging’. This allows you to access the charger remotely from your smartphone, schedule charges, tap into your solar/battery power and more!

Do I need permission to install an EV charger at home?
Council permission is not required for the installation of home EV charging systems in areas that are used for lawful off-street parking. However, there are strict guidelines to follow to ensure your unit meets safety standards. It’s best to engage a qualified and experienced EV installer to avoid these standards not being met.
